In addition to the syllabus distributed at the beginning of the year, please refer to this page to view the classroom policies and procedures.
Make Up WorkIf you will be absent from class or have an excused absence, you may make up work. You are responsible for collecting work before leaving (if you're aware of the absence) or picking it up the day you return. You will have as many days to complete the work as you were absent from class.
You should pick up your missed work from the student center at the back of the classroom. See me the day you get back with any questions! |
Submitting HomeworkHomework or other assignments must be submitted at the start of class unless otherwise clarified.
Communication
If you are unable to finish your homework or other assignment for any legitimate reason (in other words, not because you were simply busy watching a tv show or playing video games or you just forgot about it) and you wish to ask me for an extension, you must communicate with me before school begins on the day it is due. This means you should actually come to my room before school starts, not just before the bell rings at the start of the hour. An extension will not automatically be given, however. Provided class time and how that time was used will be factored in as well.

Class Etiquette
Tardy
When the bell rings, class will be in session and students are expected to be prepared to begin. Students must be in the classroom and seated/on the way to their seats when the bell rings. Students will be marked tardy if they enter after the bell rings. Kindness/Respect
Students must speak and act respectfully towards everyone in the class. This includes the teacher(s) and all students or guests. This is a two-way street; the teacher(s) will also treat you with respect and kindness. Students should listen when the teacher(s) is talking or when their peers are sharing a comment, just as the teacher(s) will actively listen. Each person should see that his/her thoughts are important and valued in class. |
Cell Phones
Cell Phones are not permitted in my classroom. The best choice is to leave it in your locker. If it is with you, it must be on silent (not vibrate) and must stay out of sight at all times. If there is an emergency and you need to use your phone, please let me know BEFORE using your phone. If your phone is out, it will be taken and you will be permitted to pick it up from the office at the end of the day. Parents/guardians will also be informed if a student uses his/her phone. Participation
ELA is a team effort. While many things require quiet focus and individual attention, there are many opportunities to interact as a group. Students should be prepared and willing to participate in class whether in discussions or other activities. |
